Morality Test... Questions raised by this terrible age of computers.

I barely have to make a choice anymore.

pre-yellowing your pages for that old time scrapbooking feel

I felt very professional yesterday. Why you ask? Just look at this picture.

With some assistance I was working on this...

It's large, about twice the width of what you can see here. At 22 feet long it's the biggest thing I have ever made, stretching out over six tables. And, despite being printed on paper, is unbearable to move. God knows how I'm ever going to present it to my class for critique.

I think it's a lot like this table I made last term.

In a similar, but not quite that similar, way I made this print out of typewriters.

On a side note, when I was up on top of all the lockers next to the silkscreen room I found this.

I'm not sure under what circumstances someone would tape a naked picture of a woman to the top of some lockers, but by god I bet they're interesting.

Finally, this is a little depressing...

also it was raining.

seven deadly scrapbooking sins

I have two container related things today. And one non-container thing.

Oh, the ecotainer. What a terrible 'tainer. I appreciate that it is made of ecologically friendly materials (possibly even recycled), but my god, it doesn't really 'tain' anything. Were they to poor my coffee into the air it would hold about as well and presumably be even more ecological. My second container related incident is as follows...

I did not even know I was capable of such acts of, for lack of a better word, heroism. I am impressed with my self. JohnNils was impressed too, and it was his waterbottle.

I have been thinking about this for awhile. I finally started to work on it today. Typographic wallpaper, though not actually for walls--unless of course that's where you want to hang it. I'm going to start silkscreening it tomorrow in big chunks. Now I just have to figure out the best way to do that.

These are the things wrong with my camera... a dead pixel and a scratch. The pixel is in the middle of the screen, between the 300mm zoom and the cap sitting to its right, it is red.

Scrapbook origins: a look at our cultural past

I have eaten at Barry's almost every day of classes for the last two weeks. Barry's it is a small sandwich shop right off the U of O campus. One which is simultanesously a bakery. It is delicious--especially the soup. Which is only 3.25 for a bowl with bread. A good deal. The problem is this, a piece of cake costs less than half a sandwich. Resultingly, I have found myself eating a lot of cake with my soup. Or more accuratley eating soup with my cake and brownies. I don't really see this as a too problematic. But, much like my messy desk, I can see my cake consumption building to a pyramidic scale.* Assuming I eat a third of a cake a week, made easy with generous helpings, by the end of the term I will have approximately consumed three whole cakes. All during lunch. Now, were my evening cakes to be factored into this--at least one in the last two and a half weeks--this adds an additional four cake to my terms total. Bringing me to seven cakes by the end of the term. Almost one cake a week. So my question to you is this... too many cakes?

I may start dropping the extra dollar for a half sandwich.

I made this for a show... somewhere. I don't actually know the location of said show. The email has a .de at the end; Europe? Possible. It seems like I heard some thing about Canada. The show is about deconstructing a single character. It's all in illustrator, from scratch, excluding the letter "A" which is Bauhaus. I was going to make an actual popsicle and photograph it melting. This didn't happen.

The deadline, being at midnight last night, rushed me a bit. But, I'm happy with how it came out. I'm going to silkscreen it, with which I will be potentially much less happy. I would like to make an entire alphabet like this. The following letters may give me trouble... QEUOSDGJLZCB. I'm sure there are lots of words you can spell without those.

*The ones in Egypt, not a group of people I scam into eating cake for me.

stickers... rolls vs. sheets

We walked around mount hood. I would recommend it. There is one place I would recommend in particular. The climb up and out of the Sandy River. It is the equivalent of standing on top of a hundred story building with no guardrail. A sloping roof. And footprint significantly smaller than its top floor. The cliff is unlike this hypothetical building, which I like to see as quite solid, in that the whole top... which looks similar to this,

feels about as secure as my bicycle lock. Gravity and Erosion walk by every day with their bolt cutters. But, luckily Chance has parked his Schwinn road-bike down the line, which Gravity eyeballs. And Erosion, being a prick, just kicks in the wheel and steals the bicycle seat.

I mean, come on Erosion. What’s a bicycle seat worth?

Importance of Archivality.

Oh, United States of A how good it is to be back in you. No more ridiculous electrical outlets. No more commas for decimal points. Just this morning I was able to crawl out from my blanket, slide the glass door open, slip out into a pleasantly cool morning, and pee into my parents lawn. These are all things you (Italy), won’t allow me to do. Your lawn (Italy) wouldn’t have been full of deer for instance. Maybe some of those weird antelope-esque creatures you seem to be able content your self with.

Now don’t get mad. You should remember (Italy), that your showers made my hair feel like a large Ducati riding Italian man had given me a swirly. No longer. Now my swirlied hair will be only result from not showering. And (Italy), that swirly will be administered by a varsity jacket wearing football player who climbs out of a Ford Bronco. A raised Ford Bronco. Chopped into a convertible.

Most importantly (Italy), it was your airline who lost my bright red duffel bag. Twice. I hope you’re happy. Because, you know what (Italy)... I am. I really am.
